Thirty years ago, Cal helped to establish a log merchandising and sales program for an Oregon mill- boosting local business. Since then, Cal has used that same innovative approach to help Oregon businesses throughout the state to save and create jobs and expand local industries. As State Representative, Cal will help small businesses recover from economic hardship, support strong schools, expand job skills training, and lower healthcare costs. While many in Salem prioritize Portland, Cal will be a strong voice for the coast.
- Helping Small Businesses and Supporting Working Families: Cal understands the vital role small businesses play in our communities, creating critical jobs in a strained economy. He will support workers by ensuring access to unemployment benefits and paid sick leave. As our State Representative, Cal will grow jobs by supporting small businesses and investing in jobs skills training so every Oregonian can earn a decent living.
- Educating Our Future: As a father, Cal has seen the impact of decades of disinvestment in our schools firsthand. And as a businessman, Cal knows that strong schools are the key to a strong economy and he supports the Student Success act and will work to protect that vital funding. To strengthen our schools, Cal will fight to reduce class sizes, improve graduation rates, and expand job training and apprenticeship programs, like those at Southwestern Oregon Community College, so more young people can get the skills they need to earn a good living.
- Protecting Our Healthcare Cal knows that healthcare and prescription drugs cost too much for many Oregonians, especially seniors. He'll work to improve access to affordable care in our community, keep rural hospitals open, and invest more resources into mental health and addiction care. Cal believes Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege and Cal will stand up to politicians who would roll back healthcare access, like pre-existing conditions.
The son of a World War II Purple Heart recipient, Cal will always make sure our veterans get the care and services they earned. He'll work to improve healthcare access for veterans and do everything he can to help end the veteran homelessness crisis.
Caring For Our Seniors
Cal will fight to make sure long-term care facilities in our community have strong health and safety protections, and that caregivers have quality wages, benefits, and training so that our seniors get the care they deserve.
