A California Sovereignty Referendum Initiative (Initiative #15-0037) was not put on the November 8, 2016, ballot for voters in California as an initiated state statute.[1]

- Louis J. Marinelli submitted a letter requesting a title and summary on July 9, 2015.
- A title and summary were issued by California's attorney general on September 14, 2015.
- Once the title and summary were prepared, 365,880 valid signatures were required for qualification purposes.
- Supporters had 150 days from the date that the title and summary were issued to collect the required signatures, resulting in a deadline of March 14, 2016.
- The California secretary of state announced the measure had failed to qualify for the ballot on March 25, 2016.
