The California Authorize Multiple Property Tax Exemptions for Veterans Amendment was not on the ballot in California as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 5, 2024.[1]

The amendment would have removed the provision prohibiting veterans from claiming the homeowners' property tax exemption and a veteran or disabled veteran property tax exemption, thereby authorizing veterans or disabled veterans to claim both exemptions.[2]

A two-thirds (66.67%) vote is required during one legislative session for the California State Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot. That amounts to a minimum of 54 votes in the California State Assembly and 27 votes in the California State Senate, assuming no vacancies. Amendments do not require the governor's signature to be referred to the ballot.

This amendment was introduced as Senate Constitutional Amendment 6 on March 23, 2023. On September 12, 2023, the state Senate passed SCA 6 in a vote of 39-0.[1]
