California Property Taxes, Amendment 1 (1886)

The California Property Taxes Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in California on November 2, 1886, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The measure provided that all property, except for railroads, that is not exempt under federal law be taxed in proportion to its value.[1][2]
