California Proposition 18 was on the ballot as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment in California on November 3, 1942. It was approved.

A “yes” vote supported replacing the Surveyor General with the State Controller on the Reapportionment Commission, which takes over if the Legislature fails to pass redistricting plans. 

A “no” vote opposed replacing the Surveyor General with the State Controller on the Reapportionment Commission, which takes over if the Legislature fails to pass redistricting plans.

Ballot summary

The ballot summary for this measure was:

Amends Constitution, Article IV, section 6. Substitutes State Controller in place of Surveyor General as member of the Reapportionment Commission created to reapportion Assembly and Senatorial Districts should Legislature fail to do so following each Federal census. In other respects reenacts present provisions of section 6 relating to such reapportionment.
