Homelessness is growing rapidly. I am the only elected official in this race that has experience working to address our homeless crisis that is now a humanitarian crisis. The bad policies stemming out of Sacramento and the indirect consequences have fostered our next generation of homeless. Our most vulnerable, our children were caught in the cross-fire of these bad policies and will suffer the ramifications for many years to come.

Public safety is a priority. My work on behalf of crimes involving children tells me that our criminal justice system is failing us. Also, the reclassification of felonies to misdemeanors has contributed to soaring crime rates. I realize the importance of supporting victims of crime, law enforcement , children, families, and our communities. I know that balancing the scales of justice is crucial for public safety. I will stand up for what is right, fair and just as I work alongside elected leaders and community members with character and integrity.

Advocating for our children in schools and providing safe learning environments is crucial. California's literacy rate is the lowest in the nation. 46% of 3rd graders in the San Diego Unified School District - the second largest in CA - do not meet reading and writing requirements. 50 % of our 4th and 8th graders in CA do not meet reading and writing requirements. If our children reach the 4th grade and do not meet the standard they are on the drop out track. These are essential, transferable skills our children need to graduate, gain employment and have opportunity in life. In addition, I will protect our children behind the gates of schools as we see an increase in bullying and anti-semitism. Our children should be thriving-not surviving.
