Protecting the Environment & Combating Climate Change

Lily Mei (D)
At a time when fierce political division threatens meaningful progress, my approach is to bring people together across party and ideological lines to solve our region’s toughest challenges.
I’ve led efforts to increase affordable housing in Fremont by record numbers; created thousands of local good-paying jobs, including clean-energy jobs; and secured millions of dollars to create navigation centers to house the homeless and provide counseling and job training services. During the pandemic, I helped lead the COVID response and increased access to life-saving vaccines, so we could get back to work and our kids back to school. As a result, Fremont is one of the most highly-vaccinated cities in the country.
I’m proud to be endorsed by local law enforcement and firefighters because they know making our neighborhoods safer is a top priority.
As State Senator, I will take my track record on housing, job creation, homeless services, and public safety to Sacramento. I’ll continue to fight hard to stop all hate crimes and ensure LGBTQ equality and civil rights for all.
Aisha Wahab (D)
Income inequality and opportunity inequality continue to cripple the entire Bay Area. The divide between the haves and the have-nots is growing, and this will have severe consequences for our businesses, schools, and livelihoods. I will support policies that bridge this divide by raising wages and creating jobs that provide a living wage and stable benefits so that families are not priced out of the region. I’ll also work to expand support like affordable child care and paid leave. I’ll fight to ensure all children have the same opportunity to succeed by supporting educational programs that help our most vulnerable students.
Protecting the environment and combating climate change are perhaps the greatest global crises as we approach the tipping point to stop climate change. We must reduce greenhouse gasses and transition to a green economy. We must also address the consequences of the drought with water conservation, and work for cleaner air and water around our state.
