The California Veterans Housing and Homeless Prevention Bond was not on the ballot in California as a legislatively referred bond question on November 3, 2020.

The ballot measure would have authorized $600 million in general obligation bonds for acquiring, constructing, and renovating multifamily supportive housing, transitional housing, and rental housing for veterans and their families.[1]

Section 1 of Article XVI of the California Constitution requires that general obligation bond issues of $300,000 or more be referred to voters for approval or rejection. The California State Legislature is required to pass bond acts by a two-thirds vote of all the members in both legislative chambers. The governor must also sign the bond act.

The bond act was introduced into the legislature as Assembly Bill 694 (AB 694) on February 19, 2019. On May 24, 2019, the California State Assembly passed AB 694 in a vote of 68-0 with 12 members not voting. The California State Senate did not vote on the proposal before the deadline on June 25, 2020.[1]
