What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. Reducing/eliminating our state debt in preparation of the impending national financial crisis. As our federal government continues increasing our deficit, whilst cutting taxes, the dollar becomes more unstable and without immediate and serious change in trajectory, a crash is imminent. SC must prepare for this by becoming financially independent of the federal government. 2. Reducing state involvement in the market. Government shouldn't be choosing winners and losers - the market should. When the government chooses to subsidize certain companies, provide fee in lieu of taxation, and provide tax dollars for private infrastructure, they are introducing cronyism into the market - which drives up taxes as it drives out competition. 3. Restoration of justice as a focus of government. This is a wide brush stroke, including prison reform (emphasizing retribution to society, which includes the goal of the individual becoming a valuable member of society), removal of occupational licenses for non-medical fields (which disproportionately negatively impact lower income communities), and education reform (as education is the foundation which provides lifelong opportunities, we must allocate additional resources to providing quality education for EVERYONE present in our state).

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Education, criminal justice reform, integration of the immigrant community, constitutional rights. Each of these are interconnected and find their root in the value of humankind and in the rights of each. The United States Constitution is clear in the roles of the Federal Government and in all aspects of government not allocated to the Federal Government being the responsibility of the state. As long as we ignore the great injustice taking place for decades as states willfully abdicate their governing rights to the Federal Government, we will continue to see a distortion of the centers of power. Please reach out for additional details.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Martin Luther King Jr. - His deep relationship with Christ was the catalyst for his unwavering dedication to fulfill his calling. I admire his ability to articulate the need for the Christian community to be involved in producing change.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

"The Law" by Frédéric Bastiat

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, integrity, and unwavering commitment to uphold the rights of all.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Compassion and responsibility.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To keep connected with their community, both to hear their thoughts/feelings/fears/opinions, and to provide perspective/insight/guidance on how to resolve the issues at hand.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like to be remembered as someone who was willing to do whatever was necessary to protect against injustice, to prepare for what is to come, and to provide everyone in my community an advocate. As I've received, so I hope to give.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

9/11. I was nine years old.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Chick-fil-a. I worked there for three years.

What happened on your most awkward date?

I got sick on Valentines day and spent the whole fancy dinner in the bathroom. My date (now wife) had to send the server to check on me.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Easter. What better reason to celebrate than that the Lamb is risen!

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Picture of Dorian Gray. The message is a necessary reminder every day of life - pretending to be something you're not takes a hidden toll; and every negative action pains someone, even if it's not seen.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Dumbledore.

Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

The people in my community need better. The recent direction and decisions of our state leaders are taking us deeper into debt and are making us more reliant upon the federal government. South Carolina has always been home for me; I feel a responsibility to do what I can to ensure that we maintain the freedom and principles upon which we were founded and which can make SC thrive. My number one priority will be to prepare South Carolina for the future. Our current trajectory has us headed toward deep financial trouble and a powerless state government. Fiscally conservative principles must return to Columbia in order to move our state toward prosperity and freedom.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Please read Bastiat, Mises, Friedman, and Orwell.[2]
