I was in high school English class when another student burst into our class and yelled "a plane hit the twin towers!" Our teacher scolded him for "making things up," but as soon the bell for that class rang, I found the nearest television. My friends and I watched in horror as the second plane hit the towers, live on TV. I will never forget the images of people running from the buildings, and the poor souls who jumped from them to escape the fire. In those moments, we knew our lives would never be the same, this was OUR Pear Harbor. After school, my community flooded the local church and held a candlelight vigil for those who were killed. For weeks, the news showed the streets of NYC covered with "missing" posters. Families were desperate to find their loved ones. The world stopped and grieved with our country.
