Authority
The Elections Division of the state department regulates campaign finance reporting processes for candidates and political committees. The agency makes these reports available to the public.[1]

Mississippi Ethics Commission
Authority
The Mississippi Ethics Commission has authority to fine candidates and elected officials who fail to file campaign finance reports with the secretary of state. It can also fine political committees that fail to file a statement of organization with the secretary of state. Beginning on the 10th late day, the agency can fine the candidate or committee $50 per day for a maximum of 10 days.[2][3]
Organization
The commission is made up of eight members appointed to four-year terms. The governor, lieutenant governor, speaker of the House of Representatives, and chief justice of the Supreme Court each appoint two members.[4]
