Authority

The Oklahoma Ethics Commission was created in 1990 with the passing of Article XXIX of the Oklahoma state constitution. Oklahoma law requires all candidates for state elective executive, legislative, and judicial offices to file with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission. The commission has constitutional authority to establish civil penalties for violations of campaign finance law.[1][2]

Organization

The Oklahoma Ethics Commission is governed by a five-person board. There must be one member from each of the five congressional districts of Oklahoma, and no more than three can be from the same party. The governor, the attorney general, the chief justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court, the president pro tempore of the Oklahoma State Senate, and the speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives are each responsible for nominating one person.[2]
