Canavan appointed to judgeship

Oklahoma: John Canavan, former Shawnee city attorney, was appointed by Gov. Brad Henry to Oklahoma District 23 on December 27, 2010. He replaced Judge Douglas L. Combs, who has moved up to the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Regarding Canavan's new appointment, the governor stated, "“I have great confidence in his abilities and appreciate his willingness to serve."
Since 1991, Canavan has worked as a Shawnee city attorney. He has also served as an attorney for the counties of Pottawattomie and Lincoln since 1996 and runs his own law practice. Early in his career, he worked as an assistant district attorney in Pottawatomie County (1979 - 1991). He is 56 years old.[1]
