Recall reports

An effort to recall Candice Voynick from her position on the Glide School District Board of Education in Oregon ended with her resignation on April 5, 2023.[1] The recall effort began in March 2023.[2]

Voynick was re-elected to a four-year term on the five-member board in May 2021. She was serving as chair of the board at the time of her resignation.[3][4]

Recall supporters

The recall petition was filed by Abigail Malek. The petition alleged that Voynick violated board policies. Malek said there had been a lack of transparency with the board. She also said the board had not upheld district policies and had not acted in good faith regarding meeting business.[2]

Recall opponents

In response to the recall effort, Voynick said she had followed through on her obligations and commitments to the district and its staff and students. "As a Board member, I stand by this commitment and will continue to do my due diligence to fulfill this commitment," Voynick said.[2]

In her resignation letter, Voynick said:[5]

I’m proud of the accomplishments, the obstacles and the hardships we have overcome in order to pursue and advocate for the district, administration, staff, teachers and students. However, due to perpetuated community strife it has become difficult and challenging for the board to focus on the district business and goals, including addressing the gaps in learning from the impact of the pandemic, school safety, formatting a strategic plan and the hiring of a permanent superintendent.[6]
