Carey Walker (Texas)
Carey Walker (Republican Party) is a judge for Number 2 of the Tarrant County Criminal Court Texas. He assumed office in 2014. His current term ends on December 31, 2026.
Walker (Republican Party) won re-election for the Number 2 judge of the Tarrant County Criminal Court Texas outright after the general election on November 8, 2022, was canceled.
Biography
Walker received a B.B.A. from East Texas State University in 1978, and a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1984. Walker ran his own law practice from 1995 until his election to the court in 2014. He was an assistant district attorney in Lubbock County from 1984 to 1986.[1]

Walker ran for election to the Tarrant County Criminal Court, Texas.
Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 30.7 percent of the vote. He competed against Atticus Gill, John White and Joyce Stevens.
Runoff: Because no candidate received a majority of the vote, Walker faced Gill in a runoff election on May 27, 2014. He won, earning 60 percent of the votes cast.
General: He defeated Leon Reed, Jr. in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 60.9 percent of the vote.

Judges of the county courts are elected in partisan elections by the county they serve and serve four-year terms, with vacancies filled by a vote of the county commissioners.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on a county court, a judge must:[4]
- be at least 25 years old;
- be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
- have practiced law or served as a judge for at least four years preceding the election.
