Candidate Connection

Carl Spoerer participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 13, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Carl Spoerer's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Transition to renewable power

2) Unionizing America again, rebuild middle class
3) Single Payer[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Health Care, Living Wage &Tax law . Because Health care is a right, not a privilege. We need to create jobs but they must be prevailing wage jobs. Tax law can direct national policy to support people instead of corporations.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Carl Spoerer answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Ability to listen and turn words into policy. A commitment to transparency in government. Mandate to get money out of politics & return to a Government Of, For & By the People.[4]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
We are judged by how we treat the least of us. I believe first and foremost that I must represent all the people of my district.[4]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Never forget where I come from, serve the people of my district, and to bring integrity to elected office everyday.[4]
What legacy would you like to leave?
Passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.[4]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
Yes, but I don't believe it is necessary.[4]
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Reducing the Military & shepherding America & the world to a more peaceful time.[4]
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Ways & Means because Tax Policy shapes the Country.[4]
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
No I believe in 4 years terms and three terms limited. At two years we are always running for office instead of learning all we can in order to govern better.[4]
What are your thoughts on term limits?
see Q. 32[4]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Non partisan, competitive (where possible), computerized redistricting.[4]
