Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Sanchez's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • The economy and the need for jobs: The 51st Congressional District represents the worst of the nation’s current struggle to provide an economy that can sustain growth and prosperity. We have an unemployment rate that exceeds the National Average and is in the range of 17 – 18%. I will lead the effort to expand economic development opportunities in the 51st District by supporting efforts of the Imperial Valley to grow a vibrant tourist industry, explore the possibility of locating a medical school in that area that will provide the opportunity for healthcare careers and the retention of medically trained personnel.
  • Terrorism and national security: Recent Global Events have stirred the feelings of concern to all Americans, as they should. We must maintain a strong military posture and retain our united posture as we battle global terrorists. Our borders must be secure recognizing that many lives can be impacted by careless enforcement of our laws. We cannot be careless, but the world has changed since 9/11 and we must move forward to protect our Nation.
  • Education: We must provide quality education for our children and incentives for higher education at all levels. We must find ways in which we will not neglect the future of new generations. Who in the end, lead to the general well-being of a nation, inhabited by a well-educated population and able to take care of themselves.
