A Carman-Ainsworth Community School District Sinking Fund Tax Levy Increase proposal was defeated on the May 7, 2013, election ballot in Genesee County, which is in Michigan.

If approved, this measure would have authorized the Carman-Ainsworth Community School District to increase its property taxes by 0.5 mill ($0.5 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 10 years in order to provide for a sinking fund for the construction, maintenance and repair needs of th district, adding to the proposed renewal of 0.5 mill resulting in total sinking fund levy of 1 mill ($1 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) The estimated first year revenue increase from this 1/2 mill increase is $350,000.[1]

Text of measure

Language on the ballot:

Shall the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools, County of Genesee, State of Michigan, be authorized to levy up to 0.5 mills for a period of ten (10) years, starting with the 2014 calendar year levy and therefore expiring on December 31, 2023, to be added to the above proposed sinking fund millage renewal (for a total millage of 1.0), for the purpose of purchasing of real estate for sites for, and the construction or repair of school buildings and all other purposes authorized by law?

This proposed millage authorizes new additional millage for the above-stated purpose. Approval of this proposal would permit an additional tax limitation increase of 50 cents per $1,000 of taxable value on all taxable property in Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools, County of Genesee, State of Michigan. It is estimated that this proposal would result in the authorization to collect an additional $350,000 in the 2014 calendar year if approved and levied.[1][2]
