A sales tax increase measure was on the ballot for Carmel-by-the-Sea voters in Monterey County, California, on March 3, 2020.[1] It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported increasing the city's sales tax from 1 percent to 1.5 percent for 20 years.
A "no" vote opposed increasing the city's sales tax from 1 percent to 1.5 percent for 20 years.


A simple majority vote was required for the approval of Measure C.

Ballot question

The ballot question was as follows:[1]

Shall the Ordinance to increase the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea’s current 1% sales tax to 1.5% to generate an estimated $4.5 million per year for 20 years to enhance the City’s green infrastructure of parks, trails, beaches and trees; invest in community facilities and spaces; maintain public safety and emergency preparation; fund capital needs; address pension liabilities and provide general City services, with all funds staying local, and with an annual independent audit, be adopted?[2]
