Carmen Means

Carmen Means is a judge on the Third Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. She was appointed by Governor Dennis Daugaard in May 2015, effective August 1. She was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert L. Timm, and will serve the remainder of his term, which expires in 2022.[1]
She previously served as a magistrate judge for the Third Judicial Circuit from 2013 to 2015.[2]
Education
Means received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and her J.D. from Creighton University in 1993.[2]
Career
Means became a magistrate judge in 2013, and served in that position until her appointment as a circuit judge in 2015. Before her time on the bench, Means spent time as an attorney in private practice, a public advocate, and a public defender.[2]
