Carol Edmead was an acting judge of the Kings County Surrogate's Court in New York. She assumed office on December 20, 2021. She left office on December 31, 2022.

She was a justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. She was elected to this position in 2003, and her term expired in 2016.[1][2]

Education

Edmead received her B.A. degree from the City University of New York City College in 1973 and her M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1974. She later attended the Brooklyn School of Law, receiving her J.D. degree in 1985.[1]

Career

Edmead began her career in 1973 as a lecturer for Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. Her legal career, however, began in 1985, when she became associate corporation counsel to the New York City Commercial Litigation Division. She then worked as a private practice law associate of Proskauer Rose from 1988 to 1990 and of Townley & Updike from 1991 to 1992. She then worked as counsel to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 1992 to 1998. She was counsel for the law firm of Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle for a short time in 1998 before she was elected judge of the New York City Civil Court. She served in this position until she was elected to the Supreme Court in 2003.[1]
