As of 2019, Carol Jenkins Barnett was the former chairwoman to the board of directors of the Florida-based supermarket chain Publix. She was also the chair of the board of Publix Super Markets Charities. Career
Carol Jenkins Barnett was the daughter of George Jenkins, the founder of the Florida-based supermarket chain Publix. Barnett served as the chair of the board for the company for 33 years, according to a press release, but she stepped down in June 2016 due to illness.[2][4] As of August 2016, she was still serving on the Publix Super Markets charities board as the president and chairwoman.[4][2]

In 2014, Barnett made two $3,000 contributions to Florida Governor Rick Scott's (R) campaign.[3] She also made a $1,000 contribution to Colleen Burton's (R) state Congressional campaign in Florida's District 40. She also made $500 contributions to Florida House Representatives Michael Bileca (R-115), Ross Spano (R-59), and Mike La Rosa (R-42).[3]

In 2014, Carol Jenkins Barnett Family Trust had contributed $540,000 to the Drug Free Florida Committee.[1] Drug Free Florida Committee opposed Florida's Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative. The committee raised several million dollars to oppose the campaign, at least $2.5 million came from Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino owner as well.[5]
