M. Carol Pope was a judge on the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court. She was assigned to this position on December 1, 2008, and was re-elected without opposition in 2012. Her term was set to expire at the end of 2022, but she retired on August 1, 2017.[1][2][3]

Education

Judge Pope graduated from the University of Illinois in 1975. She then received her J.D. degree from DePaul University School of Law in 1979.[1]

Career

Judge Pope began her career in 1979 as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge James Ackerman. She then joined the Chicago law firm of Mayer, Brown and Platt in 1983. The following year, she was elected Menard County State's Attorney. She was re-elected to this position in 1988. In 1991, she was appointed the resident Circuit Judge of Menard County (8th Circuit Judge). She was elected to this position in 1992 and worked in this capacity until her assignment to the Appellate Court in 2008.[1]

2012 election

Pope ran unopposed for re-election in the March 20, 2012 Republican primary, as well as the Nov. 6 general election, to replace Sue Myerscough.[5][2][6]
