I have worked in leadership positions for local governments, including the City of Southfield and Macomb County, in Southeast Michigan throughout my career. Most recently serving as the Director of the Plymouth District Library and a Department Head for the City of Adrian. My career and volunteer work has been devoted to public service, the support of community organizations and economic development. Volunteer leadership experiences include Rotary, Plymouth Township Historic District Commission, and the Plymouth Historical Museum and the Northville/Novi AAUW (American Association of University Women). I am running for Wayne County Commissioner in District 9 to continue my lifelong commitment to community service and to honor those elected officials who have positively influenced the communities and local governments that I have worked at throughout my career.
  • I am committed to being available and responsive to my community members and local governing officials.
  • I will work hard to learn the needs of our community – including which roads you think need attention and respond to those needs. Throughout my career I have strived to not just meet community needs but exceed them. I will bring this same attitude to this position.
  • One area that I plan to focus my attention on is helping our most vulnerable citizens: seniors, veterans, and those economically disadvantaged.
I am passionate about making sure that our communities are places that community members want to live, work and play and supporting our local economic development. Doing so provides a better quality of life for all and provides more and better jobs. Wayne County faces many challenges include population loss, insufficient affordable housing, infrastructure and road maintenance. Addressing these needs are important to me.
Throughout my career I have worked in local government and had the opportunity to work for strong local governments who worked hard to address their community needs. While working for the City of Adrian, I served as a city department head, and the director of the Adrian Public Library (now the Adrian District Library). There, I worked for City Manager Dane Nelson (now retired). Soon after taking this position, the library building was severely damaged by water and required a significant financial investment to be repaired. This disaster came as the community and state where facing economic challenges. Dane recognized the importance of the library to the community. His response to this challenge was to encourage me to determine what was needed to face this disaster, help me gather the resources (including local trades people) needed, expand my skill set to manage the repairs, and not just repair the damage but expand the role our library played to become a true community center. I admired how Dane responded to challenges, how he understood the importance of the library to the community and looked at this as an opportunity not just a disaster. This is the approach I follow when facing challenges.
The core responsibilities for Wayne County Commissioners are:

Responding to community members concerns and needs

Approving the county budget and providing fiscal oversight

Approving ordinances and contracts

I have extensive experience in all of these areas.
Working for local governments in leadership positions I have been responsible for creating budgets, maintaining fiscal oversight, responding to community needs, providing communication and being responsive to community members. I believe that all of these skills are important for Wayne County Commissioners and other local government officials.
Current endorsements include The Plymouth Democrats and AFSME. I look forward to obtaining additional endorsements in the coming weeks and after the primary in August.
