Carol Sue Reader was a judge of the Michigan 53rd District Court. She left office on January 1, 2019.

Reader ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 53rd District Court. She lost in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Although her term did not expire until January 2019, Reader ran against another sitting judge on the court, Suzanne Geddis in 2016. Reader said she decided to run in 2016 due to mandatory retirement age limits. According to state law, judges may serve on the bench past 70 years old, but they may not run for election after that age. If Reader waited until her term expired in 2019, she would be 72-years old. Reader said her decision to run against Geddis had nothing to do with the other judge, but "everything to do with what [she] want[s] to accomplish while on the bench — helping veterans and the mentally ill." Geddis questioned why Reader would run against a fellow judge. "It just sounds kind of greedy," she said.[1]
