Carolyn Dumaresq is the former Pennsylvania Secretary of Education.[1] She served in this role from August 26, 2013, when she was named to fill the vacancy left following William E. Harner's resignation, to January 20, 2015, when current Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf came into office.[2]

Dumaresq agreed to lead the department until Gov. Corbett's term expired in 2014. She said she planned to give up the job in order to have more time to show her dogs at competitions, teach dog obedience classes and volunteer at no-kill shelters.[3]

Dumaresq has a long history of experience in public education. Immediately prior to her appointment, she was serving as Executive Deputy Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education in the Pennsylvania Department of Education.[1]

Beginning her career as a math teacher, Dumaresq went on to teach at the college level at Temple and Penn State universities. Among the many other roles she has served in, Dumaresq has been Executive Director of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and President of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.[4]
