Carolyn E. Demarest
Carolyn E. Demarest was a judge of the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. She was elected to this position in 1990 and was re-elected in 2006.[1][2]
Education
Demarest received her B.A. and J.D. from New York University in 1967 and 1972, respectively.[1]
Career
Demarest began her career in 1972 as an associate of the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom. The next year, she left this firm to serve as a law clerk to Judge Stanley Danzig of the New York City Civil Court. She then worked from 1976 to 1983 as assistant chief corporation counsel for the Law Department of the N.Y.C. Appeals Division. She was a sole practitioner with her own appellate practice in 1984 and 1985. She also taught at the Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York in 1985.
Demarest began her judicial career in 1983 when she was appointed an Interim Judge of the New York City Civil Court. In 1985, she became a judge of the Family Court of New York City. She was then elected to the supreme court in 1990.[1]
