Carolyn Ellsworth was a judge for Department 5 of the Nevada 8th Judicial District Court. She assumed office on October 17, 2011. She left office on January 3, 2021.

Ellsworth ran for re-election to the Eighth Judicial District Court.
General: She defeated William C. Horne in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 68.0 percent of the vote. [1] 

2012

Ellsworth successfully maintained her position as Department 5 judge on the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court. She defeated Phung Jefferson in the general election on November 6, earning 75.45 percent of the vote. This term is effective until January 2015.[2]

Ellsworth attended San Diego State University for her B.A. and Southwestern Law School to earn her J.D.[3]

Career

Before being appointed to the bench, Ellsworth was employed as securities division administrator in the Secretary of State’s Office. In addition, she has experience working both with the Clark County District Attorney’s office and as vice president of Mirage Resorts Risk Management.[4]

2013 judicial performance evaluation

In 2013, the Las Vegas Review-Journal sponsored a survey of 902 lawyers who rated Nevada Supreme Court justices and judges located in Clark County. 51% of respondents voted in favor of keeping Ellsworth on the bench. The average vote in favor of retention for all 88 judges evaluated was 71%.[5]
