I’m Carolyn Harding and I’m running to be the Democratic candidate for Ohio State Representative, District 1

I Stand for Equality, Sustainability, Justice for All!

I will work for every person and every community in our diverse district.

I’m running for our Rights -

  • Human rights, no matter your race, religion, sexual orientation, politics, age or income;
  • Reproductive Rights;
  • Voting rights;
  • Medical Care & Insurance rights;
  • Livable Minimum Wage rights;
  • Equitably-funded Public Education rights;
  • Safe & Just Neighborhood rights.

For 10 years I’ve worked to raise awareness and organize with the Columbus Community Bill of Rights, to give citizens the right to say No to radioactive oil & gas waste dumping in the Columbus Metro Watershed.

For over three years I produced and host GrassRoot Ohio radio/podcast, featuring front-line advocates and activists working on important issues here in Columbus and all around Ohio. I will work for the People and our Planet over industry profit and politics at the Statehouse.

I support open primaries. The democratic process works best when constituents have the opportunity to listen, learn and make their own choice.

I will work for Healthy, Safe Communities - where Your Vote Counts and Your Rights Matter!
  • I Stand for Equality - Women's Rights (reproductive, pay), LGBTQ & Black, Indigenous, People of Color Rights, quality free public schools preK-University.
  • I Stand for Sustainability- Safe water & air quality, expanded Medicare and Medicaid, a livable wage $15+, affordable child care, affordable housing, sustainable energy, food systems & transportion
  • I Stand for Justice for All - End mass incarceration, End qualified immunity. No one is Above the law.
Ohio must defend All Human Rights: Women's reproductive Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, Black, Indigenous, People of Color Rights, theRights of the Poor, Hungry, Incarcerated, Homeless and Refugees, the Rights of Seniors and Children. The Right to make a living wage, the right to have improved medicare for all with dentil, mental health, vision and hearing, the Right for equitably funded, quality free public Education from preK-University.

Big Industries have targeted state legislators to implement preemptive law, which takes away local control or Home Rule rights from the people living and working in their community. In Ohio, there are preemptive laws about Oil & Gas extraction, production and waste disposal, plastic bag bans, minimum wage increases, assault rifle bans, water withdrawal limits, factory farm restrictions. These preemptive laws most often harm the people and communities who's rights have been taken away by State Preemption.

I will legislate to protect the Water, Air & Soil of all Ohio communities. I will legislate sustainable energy incentives, and stop fossil fuel extraction incentives. Promote regenerative agriculture and legislate against poisons in our Water, Air, Soil and food systems.

I will work to amend the Ohio Constitution to create a non-partisan Redistricting Commission, with no elected officials. This gerrymandering cheats the Ohio people from true representation.

All Businesses and Business owners must pay equitable Taxes.

I look up to Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony. Women who led the way for Women's Equality in the United States of America. Intelligent, resourceful and diligent educators and organizers. I look up to Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Pramila Jayapal. Their issues benefit all Americans, rich and poor, no matter what race, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, their issues will benefit all people and the planet on which we depend upon.
I am thoughtful, resourceful and brave. I am honest with integrity and I have a strong sense of Justice. I am empathetic and concerned about the well being of others, and I am protective of the sustainability of our natural resources, the water, air and soil on which we depend. I honor my word, I am curious about the world and all our people and I find humor is a good antidote for much.
I would like to help shift Ohio to a sustainable state, where the ecosystems are thriving, where communities are healthy, educated, all people are treated with dignity and humanity. Where women have full reproductive choice, and all people are equal under practice and law. I'll work for an Ohio where there is a universal single-payer health care system which includes all meds, mental health, dental+, where high quality preK-university public education is free and equitably funded. I will work to end mass incarceration and put funding into preventing crime. I will ensure a truly living wage. I will work for safe, loving foster care, comfortable, safe senior long term care, affordable housing and affordable child care. I will work to ensure equitable taxation, where corporations and wealthy individuals will pay their fare share. I will work to establish Ohio as an organic, regenerative agricultural leader. I will leave our water, air and soil systems clean, safe and regenerative.
To Kill a Mockingbird. It is family, love, adventure, history, injustice, tragedy, hero journey, from a child's perspective, humor, fear, racism, humanity, surprise, imperfect, hope.
I struggle with people who see the world one way and cannot step into the shoes of others or imagine another possibility. Life has shown me that my view is one view and my lens is my lens. I understand the mind set of black and white, right and wrong, yet I know we must work and live and work again together to come up with solutions that will best suit our families, our communities, our state, our nation and our global community.
The Governor must lead and appoint department heads in the administration. The Governor represents the overall agenda of the People of the State. The state legislature represents the people of their districts, listening to the concerns and desires of their constituents. There needs to be mutual respect, integrity, and each branch of the state government must be held accountable to the People and the Constitution.
Economic disparity; Domestic Terrorism / gun violence (white supremacy); Womens reproductive, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, Human Rights denial; environmental degradation from Big Oil & Gas, Big Ag, and Corporate environmental deregulation.
It can be helpful, and it could be harmful, if that was the only path to the legislature. People with diverse backgrounds can be more representative of the diversity in our state. Legislators with diverse backgrounds bring a fresh perspective and other skill sets to the table of working for the people.
Yes, on both sides of the aisle. We will need to work together to create and pass legislation. We need to work with both parties in areas we can find common objectives for the peoplein our district and our state.
I love this African proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone- If you want to go far, go together!"
I favor a non partisan Redistricting Commission, with No elected officials as members.

A single mom, with three children, who works hard, and her insurance doesn't cover the psychiatric meds she needs to focus, so she rations them and the lack of the meds make it hard for her to work, and that makes it difficult for her to get a loan to branch out and start a small business of her own, where she could make a better living.

A retired working man in his late 60's with diabetes, can't afford to get major dental work done, and the tooth infection impacts his diabetes, but he'll have to do without dental work, because he can't afford it.

A neighbor who lost a family member to police violence, and with Qualified Immunity, the victim's families cannot hold the bad cop accountable.
I do believe politicians must go for what is best for the people and planet, and when that ultimate goal is not possible, then a strong leader will work and negotiate for the next best alternative at hand.
