Carolyn McLarty
Carolyn McLarty was a 2018 Republican special election candidate for District 27 of the Oklahoma State Senate.
McLarty was first elected to serve as the national committeewoman of the Republican Party of Oklahoma in 2008.[1]
Career
Professional career
McLarty is a doctor of veterinary medicine.[2] She has served as the alternate district director and president for the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association’s Northwest District and served on the admissions committee for Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine.[3]
Political activity
McLarty was first elected to serve as national committeewoman for the Republican Party of Oklahoma in 2008 and has attended five Republican National Conventions. She was re-elected to serve a four-year term as committeewoman in 2016.[4] She is the Chairman of the RNC Resolutions Committee, the vice president of the Woodward County Republican Women, and the parliamentarian for the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women. She is a member of many organizations, including Oklahoma First Ladies, the Oklahoma Eagle Forum, the National Rifle Association, the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women, the Mutual Christian Church, and the Woodward Chamber of Commerce.[3]
McLarty has served as chairman of the Conservative Steering Committee and was a founding member of the Republican National Conservative Caucus. She previously served as the chaplain for the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women and the co-coordinator of the National Day of Prayer in Woodward. Additionally, McLarty was appointed to the position of speaker of the Oklahoma House on the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women and to a position on the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority.[3]
Elections
2018
A special election for the position of Oklahoma State Senate District 27 was held on February 13, 2018. The primary election took place on December 12, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates running in this election was October 2, 2017.[5]
The seat was left vacant after the resignation of Bryce Marlatt (R) on September 12, 2017. Marlatt resigned from the state Senate after being charged with a felony complaint of sexual battery.[6]
Jensen ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Murdock defeated Jeff Hall, Carolyn McLarty, Travis Templin, Tommy Nicholson, and Michael Medill in the Republican primary.[7]
Casey Murdock (R) defeated Amber Jensen (D) in the general election.[8]
