Carolyn Shearman was a Democratic member of the New Mexico Public Education Commission, representing District 9.[1] Shearman was first elected in 2008 and won re-election in 2012. She filed to run for re-election in 2016, but she ultimately withdrew prior to the primary.[2][3]

Biography

Shearman worked as a professor of business and computer information systems at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Campus from 1972 to 1995. She transitioned to the role of dean of the university's Division of Business, Math and Science in 1995 and remained in the position until 2005. She is a member of the Artesia Board of Education, where she has served since 1985.[3]

Political career

New Mexico Public Education Commission (2008-2017)

Shearman was elected to District 9 of the New Mexico Public Education Commission in 2008 and was sworn into office on January 16, 2009. She was re-elected in 2012. She filed to run for re-election in 2016, but she ended up withdrawing before the primary. During her time on the commission, Shearman served three terms as chair and two terms as vice chair.[2][3][4]

Shearman ran for re-election to District 9 of the New Mexico Public Education Commission in 2012. She was unopposed in the June 5 Democratic primary and in the general election on November 6, 2012.[6]
