Caron H. Stewart was a district court judge for the 11th Judicial District, which presides over Harnett, Johnston, and Lee counties of North Carolina.[1] She was appointed to the court by former Governor Bev Perdue in June 2012.[2] Stewart was re-elected to the 11th Judicial District in 2014 and again in 2018.[3][4] Stewart retired from the court on August 31, 2021.[5]

Education

Stewart received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina University and her J.D. from the Campbell University School of Law.[6]

Career

Before her appointment to the court, Stewart served as an assistant district attorney in the 11th Prosecutorial District for thirteen years. She also worked as an attorney in private practice in Harnett County.[2]

Stewart ran for re-election to the 11th Judicial District.
General: She defeated Kenneth R. Jones in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 58.5 percent of the vote. [3] 

Judicial performance evaluation

In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria, as well as overall performance.[7]
