Carrie Austin
Carrie Austin was a member of the Chicago City Council in Illinois, representing Ward 34. Austin assumed office on August 5, 1994. Austin left office on March 1, 2023.
Austin ran for re-election to the Chicago City Council to represent Ward 34 in Illinois. Austin won in the general election on February 26, 2019.
She was appointed to serve a partial term on the council by former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley on August 5, 1994, following the retirement of her mother, Lemuel Austin. Austin was elected to a full term in 1995.[1]
Austin retired on March 1, 2023.[2]

The city of Chicago, Illinois, held elections for city council on February 24, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was November 24, 2014.[3] In the general election for Ward 34, incumbent Carrie Austin defeated Henry Moses, Shirley J. White and Charles R. Thomas Sr.[4][5]

On July 13, 2020, Austin announced that she had tested positive for coronavirus.[14]
Indicted on bribery charges on July 1, 2021
On July 1, 2021, Austin was indicted on bribery charges. The indictment alleged that Austin and her top aide, Chester Wilson, accepted home improvements from developer in return for professional favoritism. [15] On July 8, 2021, Austin pleaded not guilty and planned to continue to work in her office.[15]
