My name is Attorney Cassandra Goodrum and I have resided in, gone to school in, grown up in, raised a family in , and now want the privilege of representing the 1st Congressional District of Illinois. I attended Bryn Mawr Elementary, Unity H.S. and graduated from De Paul University undergraduate and Northwestern University School of Law.

I have worked as an Assistant States Attorney with the Cook County States's Attorney, owned and operated a private practice for 20 years, and for the last ten years have been a Professor of Criminal Justice at Chicago State University . I am passionate about criminal justice reform, education and Peace in our Community. I have worked to engage, educate and empower people especially young adults by mentoring students, running a Safe Haven program, participating with women's and civic organizations.

As the Congresswoman from the 1st Congressional district I will promote legislation that preserves our constitutional rights, provides economic resources to revive the economy, prioritizes education, restores our environment, and impels reparations .

  • My campaign is to engage, educate and empower our community for peace. Peace is a sense of security and safety and is what we all want. My vision of peace includes affordable housing, adequate healthcare, state of the art schools that offer a comprehensive curriculum and thriving economic corridors. I am dedicated to securing the necessary resources for the 1st Congressional district that will provide for peace.
  • Educational equity is key. It is imperative that we eliminate the digital divide and ensure digital literacy to all students. Additionally, it is time to teach restorative practices to students of every age to provide them with tools to curtail violence and promote peace. Finally, education must prepare a workforce and citizenry that is equipped with the skills and the knowledge to be an engaged, prosperous constituency. It is time to create a pipeline for prosperity and peace instead of a pipeline to prison.
  • It is time for America to pay reparations to descendants of chattel slaves. America must acknowledge and readdress the systemic racism in our country that perpetuates the the inequities in education, criminal justice, lending practices and job acquisitions.
Education (see above)

Criminal Justice Reform is a public policy that I am passionate about. As a professor of criminal justice I continually encourage my students to question the status quo, and to formulate solutions to the recurring problems of qualified police immunity, imprisonment practices to re-entry of returning citizens and police training. We must restore the trust between the police and the community,

Healthcare equity is another goal for the 1st Congressional district. Equitable healthcare includes mental health and reproductive healthcare. Equitable healthcare means accessible and affordable healthcare
I would like to be a worthy servant who has done everything in my power to leave a better world for all.
My first job was managing an ice cream shop for the summer. I hired a good part of the neighborhood to work with me.
You Brought the Sunshine - The Clark Sisters
The greatest challenges to the United States as a nation over the next ten years will be overcoming racism and adjusting our habits, policy and practices to preserve and repair our environment.

Racism is the plague of our nation and colors everything from immigration policy to policing to lending practices to the transfer of property. Yet, I foresee a future that strives to correct the impact of systemic racism and corrects for our historical errors.

Preserving and repairing our environment has to be paramount on our agenda in order to have a habitable planet. We are each responsible for doing our part and we must hold our elected officials accountable for implementing, following and enforcing policies that support the goal of reducing our carbon imprint.
The framers of the Constitution were intentional in providing for a 2 year term for the House of Representatives in an effort to provide a regular restructuring of that elected body. While the intent is admirable I would be in favor of at least a three year term. The framers could never have imagined that the ability to be elected would be so fundamentally tied to fundraising. Likewise, where the two year term should encourage legislators to make timely decisions on matters of public interest, it seems that the ball is dropped on key legislation following each election. Therefore, I would be in favor of a three year term for the more effective continuity of the business of the House.
