Catherine D. Lang is a former Nebraska Director of Economic Development and Nebraska Commissioner of Labor. Lang was appointed labor commissioner by Gov. Dave Heineman in 2008, and then as director of economic development in 2011. She served in both roles until June 2014, when she resigned to accept a job in the private sector.[1][2][3]

Upon Lang's retirement, Gov. Heineman appointed Dacia Kruse to assume Lang's duties as director of economic development, and he appointed John Albin to assume her duties as labor commissioner.[4]

Lang has been involved in state government since the early 1980s. Lang served as Property Tax Administrator and was the Director for the Department of Property Assessment and Taxation. Lang has also served as the Director of the Property Tax Division and Special Counsel to the Tax Commissioner.[1]

Political career

Nebraska Director of Economic Development (2011 - 2014)

In December 2011, Lang was named to serve as Director of the Department of Economic Development in addition to her duties as labor commissioner.[1] Upon her retirement, the two roles were once again held by two separate people.[4]

Lang was appointed Nebraska Commissioner of Labor by Gov. Dave Heineman (R) after serving as the Deputy Tax Commissioner in the Nebraska Department of Revenue.

In 2011, Gov. Heinemann appointed Lang Nebraska Director of Economic Development, while keeping her on as commissioner of the State Department of Labor. She served in the dual role until June 2014, when she stepped down to begin a new job in the private sector.[1]
