Our water, air, and environment are at risk due to climate change. Beyond the threat of climate change, we are facing crises in housing, mental health, and addiction that come from reduced support for our neighbors in need. For over twenty years, I have seen the effects of climate change on our environment and the impacts of social inequities in our public health. As a working physician and former Executive Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility, I saw first-hand patients struggling because they couldn't get medication or because the air quality in their communities triggered their asthma. Their struggles reminded me how far we have to go to ensure that everyone has access to clean air and water, a safe place to live, healthy nutrition, good, affordable health care, an adequate income, and excellent childcare and education. I believe we can get there, together, but it will require leaders who see the big picture, understand the challenges we are facing, and are willing to make the difficult choices that lie ahead. With your support, I will put what I’ve learned as an activist and a leader into creating real change in Oregon’s priorities, beginning with tackling the climate crisis.
  • Our climate is in crisis and we need experienced, skilled leaders in Salem to prioritize this issue and meet this challenge.
  • Houselessness is a social justice and public health issue that can be part of the solution for the climate crisis through climate smart housing.
  • Healthcare should be a basic human right and we must address it as part of our larger solution.
I am most personally passionate about climate change, houselessness, public health and overall environmental policy.
I think it is most important for an elected official to be honest, transparent and dedicated to representing their district and the state of Oregon to the best of their ability.
Ideally, the governor and state legislature should work in partnership to move the agenda forward for the state of Oregon.
Our state's greatest challenge over the next decade will be to move off fossil fuels and meet, or exceed our emissions reduction goals, while ensuring that social and environmental justice principles are upheld.
I believe that compromise is necessary for policymaking, and I strive to work for bipartisan efforts in everything I do. However, there are limits on compromise and if something goes against my principles or what I think is in the best interests of the residents of District 45 and Oregon, I will stand my ground. Climate change is one of those areas.
