The first historical event that happened in my lifetime was 911.

I woke up that day to get my 2 boys off to school. When I came downstairs, my sister called me and said, "Turn on the TV." I turned on the TV and saw an American Airlines jet fly into one of the towers. My husband was an American Airlines pilot and was flying that day.

I went upstairs to get my boys ready for school. I forgot to turn the TV off. My oldest son came downstairs before me. When I came downstairs, my son said to me, "Mommy, was that daddy's airplane that flew into the building?" How do you explain to an 8-year-old what just happened to our nation?

I said, "The probability that was your daddy's airplane is very slim. You go to school and don't worry about it." My son did not know what probability was, but he accepted it and went to school.

My phone was ringing off the hook with concerned family and friends. I finally received a call from the American Airlines captain's wife who said she heard from her husband. The pilots were both fine. They were circling Dallas Fort Worth Airport waiting permission to land. When my husband was in the terminal, we spoke.
My first job was working for Famous Recipe Chicken. I held that job through high school and nursing school. The money I earned went towards tuition for my nursing education.

3. Maintaining Montana quality of life to include access to public land and water, affordable housing, affordable utilities, and management of population growth within our treasure state.
It helps to have experience to hit the ground running. Yet, it is not necessary.
It is important to build relationships with other legislators. Be respectful, sincere, polite and truthful. Actively listen to other legislators.

Building relationships can exponentially increase the impact of your efforts to introduce bills, draft bill language and get legislation signed into law.
In times of war, disease or other extraordinary conditions, each state authorizes its governor to declare a state of emergency. Once an emergency has been declared, executive powers expand until the emergency ends. These powers include authority normally reserved for legislatures, such as the ability to suspend existing statutes or effectively create new laws—albeit temporarily and only as needed to respond to the emergency situation.

Although governors need to be able to respond to emergencies quickly, legislatures have an important role in making sure these powers are not abused and that they do not undermine the separation of powers vital to our democratic system of government. Legislatures exercise several types of checks on state executives' emergency authority in ways that vary between states.
