Campaign themes

2017

Mitchell's campaign website included the following themes for 2017:

Transportation
Creating Transit Options
Atlanta's traffic problems are proof that the city is too dependent on vehicles. We must offer comprehensive transit solutions and alternatives that provide residents with options to move about the city freely, without having to use their vehicles.

Making Infrastructure Improvements
The recent influx of road dissolutions, potholes, and sinkholes are huge indicators that our aging infrastructure can no longer be ignored. I will make improving our city streets and roads a priority by implementing long term sustainable solutions to preserving our road frameworks.

Expanding MARTA
The lack of vehicle alternative transit options is a huge barrier to our city’s mobility. To truly alleviate the traffic congestion in our city, we must develop a comprehensive public transportation strategy that offers real transit options to move commuters through the city easily.

Safety
Delivering Resources for Our Officers
In order to effectively fight crime, we must ensure that the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our safety have all the resources necessary to protect and serve our community effectively.

Increasing Community Policing
Strong relationships of mutual trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve are critical to maintaining public safety and ensuring efficiency in policing. We must provide more opportunities for our law enforcement officers to move beyond their offices and squad cars to engage in meaningful conversation with the community.

Increasing Lights and Cameras
Currently, the Atlanta Police Foundation plans to install a total of 12,000 cameras at various locations throughout the city. These cameras will interact with the Atlanta Police Department’s Video Integration Center to strengthen the police department’s capability to surveillance and prevent and solve crime.[5][6]
