Three of the five seats on the Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbent Cecilia Iglesias filed for re-election and faced six challengers: Mark McLoughlin, Beatriz Mendoza, Rigo Rodriguez, Alfonso Alvarez, Bruce Bauer, and Angie Rosario Cano.[2] Iglesias won re-election, and Rodriguez and Alvarez won the other seats on the ballot.[3]

Iglesias began the race with an existing account balance of $3,400.00 from her previous campaign. She reported $46,336.88 in contributions and $2,960.61 in expenditures to Orange County Registrar of Voters, which left her campaign with $46,776.27 on hand as of October 31, 2016.[4]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014.
