She was first appointed to the chamber on December 6, 2015, to replace Andrew Sherwood (D), who was appointed to the state Senate.[1] She was sworn in to the chamber on December 15, 2015.[2]

Campaign themes

2016

Plumlee's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Public Safety Net

  • Celeste is working to ensure that public support networks are available to all individuals and families in need. As a recipient of several support services for her family over the last decade, Celeste understands first-hand the help that government and non-profit organizations can provide for those of us who are struggling to make ends meet. From the restoration of KidsCare, to funding the state childcare subsidy, to raising the lifetime limit for Temporary Aid for Needy Families, Celeste knows these programs are vital to the health and growth of healthy families and will push hard against those entities who continue to limit them.

Education

  • In order to compete in the national and global market, Arizona needs a well-funded public education system that gives our students the best possible preparation for the growing opportunities before us. Celeste has opposed efforts to limit education funding and reduce opportunities for our students. As the daughter of a career public school teacher, Celeste understands how hard teachers have to work in a state whose policies don’t support them and she will continue to work to ensure that we have the funding and support we need to offer the best education to our kids possible.

Equality

  • The unfair and unequal treatment of people in Arizona is an ongoing problem. In so many areas from the LGBTQ community, people of color, people who have immigrated here whether documented or not, the gendered pay gap, and others, we live in a state that does not live up to our country's promise of universal justice. Celeste has focused her time and energy on working to shed light on this imbalance and will introduce and support legislation and other efforts to correct these discrepancies and allow Arizona to be a leader in areas of human rights and equality.[3]

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
