A vote on whether to expand gambling in Central City took place on January 20, 2009 in Gilpin County for voters in Central City.
The city's residents overwhelmingly approved the measure -- 90% said "yes."
The approved changes took place on July 1.[1]
The gambling expansion measure will:
- Expand the maximum bet in casinos from $5 to $100
- Allow craps, roulette and 24-hours-a-day gambling.
Amendment 50
The vote in Central City was enabled by the passage in November 2008 of Colorado Amendment 50 (2008). Amendment 50 allows gambling towns, like Central City, to vote on raising the stakes.
