Six seats on the Central Dauphin School District Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. A primary election was held on May 19, 2015. The nine members represent three geographical regions. An equal number of candidates ran for the seats up for election, but both primary and general elections were held. All candidates ran in both the Republican and Democratic primaries. They also won in the general election without opposition.[1][2]
All six candidates advanced to the general election without significant write-in votes being cast in any primary race. Region 1 incumbents Bill Roberts and Jeanne Webster along with Region 3 incumbents Stephen Smith and Ford S. Thompson ran for re-election on the Board of Directors.
Roberts ran for a four-year term in Region 1, while Webster ran for a two-year term. Both were unopposed.
Newcomers Linda Dallago and Cara Fickes also ran for the two open seats in Region 2. Dallago was the top vote recipient in the Democratic primary while Fickes was the top recipient in the Republican primary. Both candidates advanced to the general election.
About the district
The Central Dauphin School District is located in central Pennsylvania in Dauphin County. The county seat is Harrisburg. According to the United States Census Bureau in 2013, the county had a population of 270,937.[3] In the 2012-2013 school year, the Central Dauphin School District was the 14th-largest school district in Pennsylvania and served 10,946 students.[4]
Demographics
According to the United States Census Bureau in 2013, Dauphin County outperformed the state in higher education achievement. The percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor's degree was 28.5 percent, compared to the state of Pennsylvania which was 27.5 percent. The median household income in the county was $54,066 compared to Pennsylvania's statewide median income of $52,548. The poverty rate in Dauphin County was the same as Pennsylvania's rate at 13.3 percent.[3]

Voter and candidate information
The Central Dauphin Board of Directors consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board represent three geographical regions in the district and are elected by voters in those regions. The primary election for the Central Dauphin Board of Directors was held on May 19, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Six seats were up for election on November 3, 2015. One seat with a four year term and one seat with a two year term were open in Region 1. Two seats were open in both Region 2 and Region 3.[2]
School board candidates had to file for this election with Dauphin County by March 10, 2015. Those wishing to run as an independent candidate had until August 3, 2015, to file. To vote in the primary election, residents had to register by April 20, 2015, and to vote in the general election, residents had to register by October 5, 2015.[6]
