Chabot Las Positas Community College District parcel tax, Measure I (November 2012)

A Chabot Las Positas Community College District parcel tax, Measure I ballot question was on the November 6, 2012, ballot for voters in the Chabot Las Positas Community College District in Contra Costa County and Alameda County, where it was defeated.

Measure I would have levied a parcel tax of $28 each year on owners of single-family homes. This tax would have lasted for 6 years and applied to the approximately 200,000 parcels in the district. This would have resulted in new annual revenues to the district of about $5.6 million each year, or about $33.6 million over the 6-year life of Measure I.

Although many local parcel tax measures contain an exemption for senior citizens and those on disability SSI, that was not the case with Measure I.

A two-thirds (66.67%) vote was needed for approval.

Measure I: "To provide Chabot and Las Positas Community Colleges funds that cannot be taken by the state, ensure affordable quality education, prepare students for university transfer, maintain job training in healthcare, technology, public safety, and other areas, uphold core academics, and preserve student support services, shall Chabot-Las Positas Community College District levy $28 per parcel annually for six years with Citizens’ Oversight, no money for permanent salaries, and all funds spent on local colleges?"
