Chad Brown is the Trustee Area 3 representative on the Modesto City Schools school board in California. Brown was initially appointed to the position in 2016. Brown sought a new term in the general election that was supposed to be held on November 7, 2017. Due to lack of opposition, however, the election was canceled. Brown won re-election by default.[1][2]
Before he was appointed to the board, Brown unsuccessfully ran for a seat. He was defeated in the general election on November 3, 2015.

Four of the seven seats on the Modesto City Schools Board of Education in California were up for nonpartisan general election on November 7, 2017. In their bids for re-election, incumbents Cindy Marks and Chad Brown ran unopposed for the Trustee Area 1 and 3 seats, respectively. Those races did not appear on the ballot, and the two incumbents won re-election by default. Rickey McGill, Michael Scheid, and Charlene West ran for the open Trustee Area 5 seat, and West won election to the board. The race for the open Trustee Area 7 seat included Matthew Harrington, Adolfo Lopez, and Ryan Schambers, and Lopez won election to the board.[2][3][4]
The 2017 election was the first time the school district used the by-district election method. Prior to 2017, school board members were elected at large.[5]
Results
This election did not appear on the ballot due to lack of opposition. Incumbent Chad Brown was re-elected to another term by default.[2]

Four of the seven seats on the Modesto City Schools Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015.[7] The election was held at large. Three seats were up for four-year terms, and one seat was up for a two-year term due to an appointment to the board.[8]
Incumbents Steven Grenbeaux and Amy Elliot Neumann ran for re-election to four-year terms. They faced challengers John Walker and Chad Brown. Grenbeaux and Neumann won their bids for re-election, and Walker won the third four-year term on the board.[9] Incumbent Desiree Romo ran unopposed and won re-election to the two-year term.[3]

Funding
At the time of this election, the Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports online. Ballotpedia staffers requested this information, but the only free method of viewing the files was at their office.[10]
