I’m a proud Kansan born and raised in South Central Kansas. After high school, I joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Arctic (AOE 8) out of Earle, NJ. My time in the Navy instilled in me a deep sense of duty and discipline that has guided my life. After leaving the Navy, I returned to Kansas and attended Wichita State University, earning a BS in Nursing in 2009 & later an MBA-HA. I’ve dedicated the majority of my nursing career to Emergency Medicine. In 2012, I moved to Castle Rock, CO, where I live with my wonderful family. I’ve been married for 22 years and am the proud father of five children. Being a father is my most important job, and I strive every day to instill the core values of hard work, kindness, and humility that my mother and grandparents taught me. I grew up in a single-parent home until I was six. My mother worked long hours as an air ambulance dispatch operator to provide for us, with the support of my grandparents. Despite the challenges she faced, she taught me the importance of service and giving back to the community. Her volunteer work with local EMS and the emergency technician team left a lasting impression on me. I learned early on that values and perseverance are more important than material wealth. My grandfather’s baseball lessons, where he told me to “point your toe where you want the ball to go,” have shaped my approach to life and leadership. I aim to bring that same dedication and integrity to serving my fellow citizens.
  • Defend Democracy As a candidate for State House, I pledge to support and defend our Constitution with the same commitment I had in taking to oath when I joined the Navy. Democracy is the core of the United States, and our nation thrives when we uphold these principles and safeguard against threats. Our democracy is fragile and must be protected. Unlike some current leaders who prioritize power over principles, I will focus on defending our democratic values and ensuring justice for all. We must work together, beyond partisan divides, to strengthen our country and build a more equitable future for everyone. It's through the strength of our democracy that we can overcome challenges, address injustices, and move forward together as a nation
  • Value Based Education and School Choice Every child deserves a quality education to grow into successful adults. I will work to ensure our schools focus on real learning, not political ideologies or misinformation. Three years ago, a petition to "make our schools more conservative" revealed to me the dangers of turning education into a culture war. I am committed to defending our public schools, supporting teachers, and fostering genuine parent involvement. We must stop false narratives and focus on providing all families with access to excellent educational opportunities that meet their children’s needs. I support school choice and will do al within my authority to maintain a true effort towards school choice.
  • Responsible Growth for a Sustainable Future Community growth is great, but we must balance it with strong infrastructure and environmental stewardship. We need affordable housing for first responders and teachers, better roadways, water systems, schools, and public transportation. Growth should be planned smartly, with investments in infrastructure to avoid resource strain and congestion. We must embrace sustainable development, promoting conservation and smart land use to protect our environment while advancing our community. Let’s ensure growth enhances both our quality of life and our beautiful Colorado landscape.
I’m dedicated to environmental responsibility with clean energy investments and stronger conservation efforts. We must ensure affordable housing for essential workers like teachers and first responders. Let’s cap taxes on retirement income and reform property taxes for fairness. Emphasizing responsible growth and sound infrastructure will build resilient communities. We also need to lead in water conservation to protect this vital resource. I will support and defend the needs of our LGBTQ+, Latino, and minority communities to ensure equity and inclusion for all. Embracing diversity grows our collective experiences that fosters and strengthens our community as wells as propels our economic prosperity
It may sound cliché, but I deeply admire my grandfather and aspire to follow his example. It was only after he passed away that I fully realized what an extraordinary man, husband, father, and human being he was. Growing up in a single-parent household until I was six, and even after my mother remarried, he was the pivotal father figure in my life.

He cherished his grandchildren and would have done anything for us. I often find myself reflecting on the advice he gave me while teaching me how to throw a baseball: “Point your toe where you want the ball to go.” This simple yet profound guidance was invaluable then and continues to resonate with my personal and professional goals as an adult. I often wish I could tell him how much his wisdom has helped me navigate obstacles and achieve success throughout my life.

Though he had little formal education, he possessed a wealth of life experience and insight. I miss him every day and wish I could express to him how his straightforward advice has been a cornerstone in my journey.

My grandparents, though not wealthy in material terms, were rich in love and kindness. They were the kind of people who never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Their generosity and warmth have left an indelible mark on my heart, and their example guides me as I strive to make a positive impact in the world.
I do not have just one book that I could provide which would effectively explain my political philosophy. It is better explained through my collective experiences. I have seen and taken part in many experiences that have developed, molded, and changed my thinking. I know what it is like to grow up in a small rural town and have lived in large metropolises. I have volunteered my time to my country, which allowed me the fortunes on meeting, living and serving among many from similar and vastly differing backgrounds than I. I've seen and been intimately involved in the beauty of life beginning to the deepest depths of sorrow in life ending. As an emergency room nurse I have seen the ugliest of evil and the brightest light in humanity. I have learned the humility in understanding my wrongdoings in life. That humility and provided me with openness of understanding. I take these lived experiences and combine them with values shown and instilled in me by my loved ones that shape my philosophy.
As an elected official, my guiding principles revolve around the core values of reverence, honesty, and responsibility. These principles are the foundation of a leader’s duty to serve with integrity and respect for all constituents. True leadership is not about personal gain or party power but about creating a positive impact for everyone. Reverence for the role of public service is fundamental. To me, being in office is not a privilege but a profound responsibility to honor the trust placed in me by the people. This means valuing every voice, understanding the gravity of decisions made, and approaching leadership with humility. It’s about respecting the diverse perspectives and experiences of all community members, recognizing that each person’s voice matters in shaping our shared future.
Honesty is the bedrock of effective governance. Leaders must be transparent and truthful in their communication. This means presenting facts clearly, acknowledging mistakes, and being open about the challenges we face. Honesty fosters trust between leaders and constituents, which is essential for a healthy democracy. When leaders are honest, they encourage informed dialogue and collaborative problem-solving rather than creating divisions through misinformation or evasive tactics. Responsibility involves a commitment to ethical conduct and accountability. An elected official must not only act in the best interest of their constituents but also hold themselves accountable for their actions. This principle requires a leader to prioritize the public good over personal or political interests. It means making decisions based on what is best for the community, rather than what will advance a personal agenda or political career. A leader must also represent all constituents. This means transcending partisan divides and focusing on what unites us as a community. It is crucial to govern based on a value-based system rather than a rigid belief system.
The qualities I bring to the role of officeholder are rooted in honesty, kindness, and a warm-hearted nature, complemented by a rich tapestry of lived experiences, both good and bad, that offer me diverse perspectives. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to confront and overcome my own narrow-minded views, which has been a deeply humbling experience.

These realizations have allowed me to appreciate how exposure to different cultures and life experiences can broaden one’s understanding and shift perspectives. I approach every issue with an open mind, recognizing that presenting facts and engaging with diverse viewpoints can lead to meaningful changes in my thoughts and beliefs.

This openness and humility shape my approach to public service, guiding me to listen thoughtfully, act with integrity, and strive to represent all voices with compassion and respect. My journey has equipped me with the empathy and flexibility needed to serve effectively and to work collaboratively towards solutions that reflect the diverse needs of our community.
The core responsibilities of an elected official extend beyond the act of voting on legislation; they embody a commitment to integrity, transparency, and public service.

Integrity is the cornerstone of any elected office. An official must act with honesty and uphold the highest ethical standards in all their duties. This means making decisions based on what is best for the community, not personal gain or external pressures. Integrity requires that officials be principled in their actions and consistent in their values, maintaining trust with constituents through every decision they make.
Transparency in the legislative process is essential. Elected officials are responsible for bringing key local issues to the capitol and ensuring that all constituents understand the implications of proposed legislation. This means clearly explaining both the positives and negatives of bills and providing a thorough, accessible breakdown of how legislation will impact our community. Constituents have the right to know how and why decisions are made, and officials must be prepared to articulate their reasoning for supporting or opposing a bill. Officials must be available to the people they represent by actively engaging with constituents, listening to their concerns, and addressing their questions. Officials should also provide regular updates on legislative efforts, explaining what steps are being taken to advance or halt proposed legislation. Accountability means being a visible, approachable leader who actively seeks and values community input.

An elected official must also maintain professional decorum both with peers and constituents. Respectful and constructive interactions are crucial in a role that requires collaboration and diplomacy. Officials must navigate disagreements with civility and focus on finding common ground, rather than exacerbating conflicts or engaging in partisan rhetoric. Official should be able to explain the "why" behind they vote.
I hope to leave a legacy that embodies the values which have guided my own life—honesty, kindness, and trustworthiness. My deepest aspiration is for others to look back on my time in office and remember me as a leader who was sincere and compassionate, someone they could trust in every situation.

Above all, I have always believed that if I can be a positive influence for even one teenager who is struggling to find and express their authentic self, I will have achieved something meaningful. I often reflect on my own journey and the times I questioned, “Why am I here? Why do I have to feel this way? Why can’t I just be open and accepted?” These questions led me to darker thoughts and moments of uncertainty.
Fortunately, I had an inner voice that gently encouraged me with the message, “Don’t give up; it gets better.” I am acutely aware that many teens may not have such a reassuring presence in their lives. My hope is to be that voice of encouragement and a role model who shows them that there is hope and that their struggles can lead to brighter days.

In essence, I wish to serve not just as a leader but as a beacon of hope for those who may be facing their own challenges. I want to be remembered for my efforts to uplift others, even if only one, just as I was once lifted by the quiet strength of my own inner voice.
The first historical event that I remember was when the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after lift off. I was 5 and would have been in 1st grade, I believe. We (the school) watched the lift off live when it exploded.
My very first job was at a local sub and donut shop called, "Sub 'n' Stuff. I believe I was there for about a year when I was recruited by one of our regular patrons (the local veterinarian) who has asked me to come work for him.
My favorite book, and ultimately my favorite movie, is The Help. This poignant work, set against the backdrop of a darker chapter in our country’s history, offers a profound exploration of the civil rights movement. I am deeply grateful for the progress we have made since that time, though I recognize there is still much work to be done.

The Help resonates with me on a profound level, evoking a full spectrum of emotions. Through its powerful narrative, I experience joy, regret, happiness, sorrow, anger, and relief in a way that no other book or film has managed to achieve. The story's emotional depth and the complexity of its characters create a rich tapestry of human experience, which touches me deeply and stirs a broad range of feelings.

This book and its adaptation into a film capture the essence of a pivotal era, offering a reflective look at both the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement. It is a testament to the power of storytelling to convey the full range of human emotion and to inspire both thought and empathy.
If I have to admit that he is fictional then I would have to say, Superman. In my eyes he is the only real super-hero. Besides all his amazing super abilities, he stands for truth and justice. Who else would a person want to be?
Maybe not the last song that was stuck in my head because with five small children it my be something like "Baby Shark", but my favorite song is, "My Own December" by Linkin Park, which happens to also be my favorite band.
One of the greatest struggles in my life has been learning to believe in myself. From a very young age, I grappled with questions of identity and self-worth. I grew up in an ultra-conservative and religious household where I was frequently told by family and church that people like me—those who questioned their origins or struggled with their sexuality—were somehow sinful or destined for hell. These messages of hate and fear created a sense of isolation in a world that already felt small and unwelcoming.

Adding to this turmoil was the emotional and physical abuse from a stepfather who used degrading language and inflicted harm, which left me feeling broken and diminished. The combination of these experiences fostered a deep-seated struggle with self-worth and a persistent doubt about my abilities and value.
Over time, I have had to teach myself that I am enough and that I am capable of achieving great things. It has been a journey akin to trying to climb out of a deep, dark hole with a rope slicked with oil. Despite the challenges, I have come to understand that my struggles do not define me; rather, they have shaped me into someone who can rise above adversity.

Through this process, I have learned to find strength in my own resilience and to remind myself that self-worth is not determined by the negativity of others but by the courage to overcome and the belief in one’s potential. This ongoing struggle is a testament to the fact that, even in the darkest times, there is hope and the possibility of reaching new heights.
the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature should be grounded in openness and honesty. Trust is essential: the governor must have confidence that the legislature’s work is driven by integrity and a genuine commitment to serving the people of Colorado. In turn, the legislature should be able to rely on the governor to address their needs and collaborate on creating effective legislation in a timely manner.

This partnership should be built on accountability and mutual respect. Both branches must work together in a fair and balanced manner, ensuring that neither branch exerts undue influence over the other, regardless of which party is in control. This dynamic promotes a healthy democratic process where decisions are made transparently and with the best interests of the public in mind.

An open dialogue and a commitment to each other’s roles are crucial for a productive and effective government. The governor and legislature must hold each other accountable, maintain a cooperative relationship, and focus on what truly benefits the people they serve. By fostering this type of relationship, we can ensure that our state’s governance remains fair, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all Coloradans.
As Colorado faces the next decade, we must address several pressing challenges driven by rapid population growth and infrastructure demands. Balancing this growth with sustainable development will be crucial for our future.

1. Infrastructure Development: The influx of new residents presents significant challenges for maintaining and expanding our infrastructure. We must invest in modernizing transportation, water systems, and public services to keep pace with growth while ensuring these systems are resilient and efficient.

2. Natural Resource Preservation: With increased population, preserving our natural resources becomes even more critical. We need to implement smart growth strategies that protect our environment, manage water resources responsibly, and safeguard our natural landscapes for future generations.

3. Housing Affordability: As the demand for housing rises, we must address affordability to prevent Colorado natives from being priced out of their communities. We need to develop diverse housing options that are accessible to all income levels, ensuring that new residents can integrate into our communities without displacing long-term residents.

4. Workforce Development: Rapid growth also brings opportunities for a diverse workforce. We must focus on creating a range of job opportunities and supporting workforce development programs that meet the needs of all sectors. This includes investing in education and training to equip Coloradans with the skills required for emerging industries.

By addressing these challenges with a balanced approach, we can manage growth effectively while preserving our state’s unique character and ensuring a high quality of life for all residents. A strategic focus on infrastructure, resource management, affordability, and workforce development will help Colorado thrive in the years ahead.
I believe that while knowledge of government workings can be beneficial, it should not be a strict prerequisite for serving in office. Our government thrives on a diversity of skills and perspectives, and it’s crucial that our representatives reflect the demographics and experiences of those they serve.

Limiting our choices to only those with prior experience in government or politics can narrow our pool of potential leaders and stifle growth and innovation. We need individuals from varied backgrounds who bring fresh ideas and approaches, as they can offer new solutions to the challenges we face.
Moreover, we can and should learn from those who have come before us. Their experiences offer valuable lessons, but this does not mean that only those with a long track record are suited for service. By being open to new voices, we create opportunities for honest, ethical leadership and foster a more dynamic and representative government.

In essence, the best public servants are those who are committed to the principles of integrity and public service, regardless of their previous experience. Embracing a broad range of backgrounds and skills helps us build a more inclusive and effective government, one that is better equipped to meet the diverse needs of our communities.
Absolutely, building relationships with fellow legislators is not just beneficial but imperative for effective governance. The essence of our work is to serve the people of Colorado, and forming strong, professional bonds with other legislators is a crucial part of this mission.

Often, the only thing separating our districts is a road or a county line. The needs of our communities frequently overlap, and many challenges are shared across these lines. If we cannot see each other as colleagues and fellow Coloradans working towards the same goal, it becomes much harder to craft meaningful and effective legislation.

Building these relationships allows us to understand diverse perspectives, find common ground, and collaborate on solutions that address the needs of all our constituents. When we approach each other with respect and an open mind, we can bridge divides, overcome partisan differences, and work together for the greater good of the state.

Meaningful legislation often requires negotiation, compromise, and a willingness to listen. If legislators view each other as adversaries rather than partners in public service, our ability to create effective policy solutions is severely limited. By building a foundation of trust and mutual respect, we can foster an environment where productive dialogue and collaboration thrive.

In addition, these relationships can lead to a more cooperative legislative process, where ideas are shared, best practices are discussed, and collective expertise is utilized. This approach not only benefits our individual districts but also strengthens the overall legislative body’s capacity to serve the people of Colorado effectively.
I would like to model my approach to public service after that of Bob Marshall from HD43. Although we are both Democrats, we come from different backgrounds and hold some differing ideas, which I see as a strength rather than a limitation.

Bob Marshall exemplifies how to balance personal convictions with effective public service. His ability to maintain his freedom of thought while staying true to core democratic values is something I deeply admire. He demonstrates that it is possible to hold diverse views and still work towards the common good, which is a principle I intend to uphold in my own service.

What stands out most about Bob Marshall is his transparency and dedication to being present with his constituents. He is known for his willingness to engage directly with the community, listen to their concerns, and bring that feedback into the legislative process. This approach ensures that legislation is grounded in the real needs and experiences of the people he represents, which is a model I aspire to follow.

By adopting Bob Marshall’s commitment to openness and his focus on genuine constituent engagement, I aim to create a more inclusive and responsive legislative environment. I believe that staying connected with the community and being transparent about my actions and decisions are crucial for building trust and effectively serving our constituents.

In essence, I look up to Bob Marshall’s example of maintaining integrity, embracing diverse perspectives, and fostering strong relationships with those we serve. These are the values I hope to bring into my own work as a legislator, ensuring that I serve with both passion and purpose.
If you had told me a decade ago that I would be running for state representative, I would have questioned what you were drinking! Yet, here I am, and I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to serve our community in this role.

That said, to completely shut out the idea of pursuing a national office or a different position in the future would be premature. While my current focus is on serving effectively as a state representative, I remain open to the possibility of exploring other opportunities if they align with my commitment to public service and the needs of our constituents.

My primary goal is to be as effective and impactful as possible in this role. If I find that I can represent the people’s interests with greater success and make a more significant difference in a larger capacity, I would certainly consider that path.

Public service is a journey, and while I am dedicated to this role, I also recognize that it may open doors to new avenues of service. The future holds many possibilities, and if the opportunity arises to serve on a larger stage and continue advocating for positive change, I would evaluate it with the same commitment and dedication that I bring to my current position.

For now, my focus is on doing the best job I can in this role, listening to my constituents, and working tirelessly for our shared goals.
Absolutely, I have been moved by many stories shared with me, each unique yet deeply impactful because they represent what was most important to the person sharing them. Every story is significant because it reflects a personal experience and the challenges they face, and I listen with the utmost respect and empathy.

Some stories that have resonated with me are those that relate closely to my own lived experiences. For instance, I have heard from teenagers who have faced harassment or bullying in their communities, and those experiences strike a chord with me because I understand the pain and struggle of navigating such difficult situations. Similarly, I’ve listened to stories about individuals who have had to make tough decisions about the level of care for their aging grandparents, which resonates deeply with me due to my own experiences with family caregiving.

These stories are powerful not just because of their individual circumstances but because they highlight common human experiences. We all find a sense of camaraderie and connection in the struggles and triumphs of others that we can relate to. It’s these shared experiences that build empathy and drive us to advocate for meaningful change.

Hearing these personal accounts reinforces why I am running for office—to be a voice for those who need it and to work towards solutions that address the real concerns of our community. Every story I hear is a reminder of the diverse challenges people face and the collective effort required to make a difference. These experiences shape my approach to public service, motivating me to be a compassionate and effective representative for all.
Knock, knock!

Okay, much better delivered in person that in writing, but, funny nonetheless.
I believe that the power to grant emergency powers should ultimately reside with the governor, but the legislature must oversee the process, including granting, terminating, and extending those powers. This approach embodies the principles of shared governance and upholds the checks and balances that are fundamental to our democratic system.

In a crisis, the governor must have the authority to act swiftly and decisively to address immediate needs and ensure public safety. However, the legislature’s role is crucial in overseeing these actions to maintain accountability and prevent the abuse of power. This division of responsibilities ensures that no single branch of government can operate unchecked, aligning with the democratic values of transparency and balance.

We see a similar structure at the federal level, where the President can issue executive orders during emergencies, but Congress plays a key role in shaping and overseeing those decisions. I believe that each state should operate with a similar framework, adapting these federal principles to fit our unique state context.

By granting emergency powers to the governor while maintaining legislative oversight, we create a system where executive actions are both effective and accountable. This balance of power supports a more responsive and responsible government, reflecting our commitment to democratic ideals.

In summary, the governor should have the authority to manage emergencies, but the legislature must oversee this authority to ensure that it is used appropriately. This shared governance model reinforces the checks and balances that are essential to our democratic process, mirroring the federal structure but tailored to meet the needs of our state.
Since my foremost campaign initiative is to support and defend our democracy, the first bill I would champion would focus on further safeguarding our election integrity. While Colorado already has a robust and secure elections process, there is always room for improvement to ensure that every citizen’s vote is counted and that our democratic principles are upheld.

My aim would be to introduce legislation that not only enhances the security of our elections but also expands access to voting and strengthens public confidence in the electoral process. This includes measures to streamline voting procedures, expand voter access, and enhance transparency throughout the election process.

Equally important, I would seek to provide additional protections and support for our election workers. These dedicated individuals play a crucial role in our democracy, and it is vital that they are safeguarded from any form of intimidation or harassment. Regardless of political affiliation, election workers must be able to perform their duties without fear, as democracy thrives on the principle of diverse perspectives and the integrity of the voting process.

In summary, my first legislative priority would be to propose and advocate for measures that further secure our elections, expand voter access, and protect those who ensure the process runs smoothly. By addressing these areas, we can strengthen our democratic system and build trust in the electoral process, ensuring that it serves all Coloradans effectively and fairly.
I am awaiting final endorsement decisions this campaign season.
I am enthusiastic about contributing to several key committees that align with my campaign’s strategic goals and address the needs of our community.

Health and Human Services is a priority for me, as I am dedicated to improving healthcare access and mental health resources. Serving on this committee will enable me to advocate for the well-being of all Coloradans.
Education is another area where I am passionate about making a difference. I aim to support initiatives that enhance educational opportunities, support teachers, and ensure equitable resources for our schools.
Energy and Environment are critical to Colorado’s future. I am committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions and protecting our environment while balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.
Agriculture, Water, and Natural Resources are essential for addressing rural needs and managing Colorado’s resources. I am focused on supporting our agricultural sector, managing water resources, and preserving natural landscapes.
Transportation offers opportunities to improve infrastructure and connectivity across the state. I am dedicated to working on projects that enhance transportation efficiency and safety.
Housing and Local Government are crucial for tackling affordable housing challenges and strengthening local communities. I am committed to policies that support housing affordability and effective local governance.
Lastly, State, Civic, Military, and Veteran Affairs reflect my dedication to veterans and civic engagement. I am eager to work on initiatives that support military families, veterans, and promote civic responsibility.

These committees represent key areas where I can make a meaningful impact, advancing my campaign’s objectives and addressing the diverse needs of my constituents.
I completely agree financial transparency and government accountability. Financial transparency is indeed crucial because it ensures that taxpayer money is being used effectively and ethically. When constituents see clear, accessible records of how their money is spent, it fosters a sense of trust and confirms that elected officials are fulfilling their responsibilities. Accountability in government is not just about individual actions and decisions but also about demonstrating a commitment to the principles of integrity and responsibility. By holding officials accountable for both their actions and financial decisions, we strengthen democratic processes and promote a more open and fair system of governance. Building and maintaining trust with the public hinges on these principles, and without them, our ability to serve effectively and justly is compromised. Your emphasis on these values is a reminder of what makes good governance and leadership so vital to a healthy democracy.
I generally support the current ballot initiative process, but I believe there are areas where we can make meaningful improvements. The initiative process is a vital part of our democracy, allowing citizens to propose and vote on significant changes. However, like any system, it benefits from ongoing refinement to ensure it serves the public effectively.

One key area for improvement is the clarity of the language used in ballot initiatives. Often, the wording can be confusing or misleading, leaving voters uncertain about whether they are supporting or opposing a measure. It is essential that ballot language is transparent and straightforward, so that voters can make informed decisions without being misled or confused.

Another important improvement involves the voter guides that are mailed to each household. Currently, the section where constituents express support or opposition to a measure is not required to be based on factual information. In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly, it is crucial that these statements are grounded in fact and verified for accuracy. Voters deserve a reliable resource for understanding the merits and drawbacks of each measure, and these guides should provide clear, factual information vetted by nonpartisan sources, such as county clerks' offices.

In summary, while I support the core of our ballot initiative process, I advocate for clearer language in ballot measures and more accurate, fact-based information in voter guides. These changes will help ensure that voters are better informed and that the initiative process remains a robust tool for democratic engagement and decision-making.
