The recall petitions against Perkins and Harris were filed with the Seventh Judicial District Court on May 30, 2017, and they were denied on June 5, 2017, due to filing problems and clerical mistakes, according to Judge Matthew Reynolds. Reynolds said the petitions were "insufficient to trigger a court hearing pursuant to the Local School Board Member Recall Act.” He also said the recall supporters had not filed affidavits to support the charges of the petition or an application for recall with the Socorro County Clerk. He also said there were signatures on the petitions from citizens in another county.[1]
Recall supporters could correct the petition and file affidavits and applications with the Socorro County Clerk to restart the recall process, according to the Seventh Judicial District Court Clerk's Office. Approximately 154 signatures would be needed if the recall process was restarted, according to the El Defensor Chieftain.[1]
