Chad Wolf
Chad Wolf was the acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He was appointed by President Donald Trump's (R) administration to become the undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security on November 13, 2019.[1] He was confirmed by a Senate vote of 54-41.[2] On November 13, 2019, Wolf was elevated to the position of acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.[3]
On January 11, 2021, Wolf said he would resign as acting secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security effective at midnight. Wolf wrote in a letter to department staff, "Unfortunately, this action is warranted by recent events, including the ongoing and meritless court rulings regarding the validity of my authority as Acting Secretary." Peter Gaynor, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was set to replace Wolf as acting secretary.[4]
On August 25, 2020, Trump announced that he would nominate Wolf as permanent secretary of Homeland Security.[5] He nominated Wolf on September 10, 2020.[6] On January 7, 2021, President Trump withdrew his nomination of Wolf for secretary of Homeland Security.[7]
The secretary of Homeland Security is responsible for "counterterrorism, cybersecurity, aviation security, border security, port security, maritime security, administration and enforcement of our immigration laws, protection of our national leaders, protection of critical infrastructure, detection of and protection against chemical, biological and nuclear threats to the homeland, and response to disasters."[8]

Wolf obtained a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and a Master's Certificate from Villanova University.[9]
