Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy is a 501(c)(4) organization that acts as the public policy advocacy fund for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, LLC.[2]
Background
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 by Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.[3]

Ballot measure activity
Oregon Measure 110, Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy supported the Oregon Measure 110, Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative, which was on the November 3, 2020, ballot. Measure 110 would make personal non-commercial possession of a controlled substance no more than a Class E violation (max fine of $100 fine) and establish a drug addiction treatment and recovery program funded in part by the state's marijuana tax revenue and state prison savings. Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy donated $500,000 to the campaign supporting the initiative.[4]
California Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding Initiative
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy supported the California Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding Initiative, which was on the November 3, 2020, ballot. The measure was designed to amend the state constitution to provide that taxes on commercial and industrial properties, except those zoned as agriculture, be based on market value, rather than the price at time of purchase.
As of September 30, 2019, Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy had given $1.6 million to the Schools and Communities First PAC, which supported the measure.
Ohio Issue 1, Drug and Criminal Justice Policies Initiative
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy supported Ohio Issue 1, which was on the November 6, 2018, ballot. The measure was designed to modify the state's laws related to illegal drug use.
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy contributed $3 million to the Ohio Safe and Health Communities Campaign, which supported the measure.
California Proposition 1, Housing Programs and Veterans' Loans Bond
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy supported California Proposition 1, which was on the ballot on November 6, 2018. The proposition was designed to authorize $4 billion in general obligation bonds for housing-related programs, loans, grants, and projects and housing loans for veterans.
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy contributed $300,000 to committees supporting Proposition 1, more than any other group.[5]
California Proposition 2, Use Millionaire's Tax Revenue for Homelessness Prevention Housing Bonds Measure
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy supported California Proposition 2, which was on the ballot on November 6, 2018. The proposition was designed to use revenue from Proposition 63 (2004)—a 1 percent tax on income above $1 million for mental health services—on $2 billion in revenue bonds for homelessness prevention housing for persons in need of mental health services.
Chan Zuckerberg Advocacy contributed $300,000 to committees supporting Proposition 2, more than any other group.[6]
