Chantel Jackson is a native New Yorker residing in the South Bronx. She grew up in Harlem with her mother who immigrated from Belize. Chantel became a mom at the age of 18 and was still able to earn a Bachelor's Degree at City College and a Masters Degree at Adelphi University. Chantel is a licensed social worker for a NYC public high school. Before becoming a social worker, Chantel was a college advisor and assisted low income first generation students get into college. She has taught at the college level and has written a book. When elected, Chantel wants to continue her fight for W.H.E.N. (Wellness, Housing, Education, NOW).
  • Chantel wants to reduce high rates of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and asthma by addressing the environmental factors that are the causes for these issues. She wants to properly fund mental health services and increase insurance for uninsured and underinsured people.
  • Chantel will continue the fight of providing quality, affordable places to live and raise your family. New York State has passed some of the most progressive tenant protection laws, and Chantel will work to ensure they are being upheld in the Bronx. It's imperative we increase home ownership to help create generational wealth. Chantel is committed to granting access and education to owning a home. It's her goal to have residents revitalize their own neighborhoods.
  • Chantel Jackson has worked in New York City's public schools for over fourteen years. Chantel wants to make sure the neediest school districts receive the funding owed to them by New York State. She wants to increase education in the RBCs; Real Estate, Business, Credit & Stocks. She also wants to increase access to the NYS TAP grant which gives students, like herself, a college degree that's affordable.
Chantel is passionate about wellness. She often says, "Without your health you have nothing. We can work on housing and criminal justice but if you don't have mental or physical wellness then those other things no longer matter."
The biggest historical event was 9/11. I was 17 years old and 6 months pregnant. I remember being in Humanities class when our teacher informed us the Twin Towers were gone. There was no cell phone service, no trains and crowded buses. I had to walk over 50 blocks to get home to check on my family.
I was 14 when I got my first job as a Peer Educator. I taught adolescents about HIV and STD prevention.
The Secrets in Forever by CT Jackson & Terrence Trafton. It's well written and relatable. It made me cry, laugh and reevaluate my life. I'm bias because I wrote it!

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New York

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
