Chantia Lewis
Chantia Lewis was a member of the Milwaukee Common Council in Wisconsin, representing District 9. She assumed office in 2016. She left office on July 18, 2022.
Lewis (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Wisconsin. She did not appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary on August 9, 2022.
Biography
Lewis served in the United States Air Force. Her experience included working as a business owner and as a board member for the social justice organization 9to5 Wisconsin. Her nonprofit organization, One Step At a Time, trained youths and adults to succeed in the job market.[1]

The city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, held elections for mayor and city council on April 5, 2016. A primary election took place on February 16, 2016. All 15 city council seats were up for election. Chantia Lewis defeated incumbent Robert W. Puente in the Milwaukee City Council District 9 general election.[2]

Noteworthy events
Charged with theft and fraud (2021)
On September 7, 2021, Lewis was charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.[3] The complaint alleged that Lewis stole more than $20,000 from her campaign and the city of Milwaukee.[4] Lewis was charged with misconduct in public office, theft, theft by fraud (misdemeanor), intentionally filing false campaign finance report or statement, and intentionally accepting unlawful campaign finance disbursement.[3]
On October 18, 2021, Lewis pleaded not guilty to the charges.[5] Three of five charges were dropped in July 2022, with Lewis pleading guilty to public misconduct in office and no contest to intentionally accepting unlawful campaign finance disbursement.[6]
In 2022, Lewis pleaded guilty to a count of misconduct in public office and no contest to a count of intentionally accepting an illegal campaign finance disbursement. She was subsequently removed from office on July 18, 2022.[7] Lewis was sentenced to 30 days in custody and three years of probation on August 25, 2022.[8]
